FAQ

1. What makes the Q Switch different than the other “traditional” lasers that doctors use to treatnail fungus?

The difference between Q Switch and other lasers that are considered “long pulse,” is that QSwitch delivers a tremendous amount of laser power in one pulse, which works on the principleof “cavitation”. Long pulse lasers work more on the principle of heat.

2. Why is Q Switch more effective?

There are several ways to kill fungus, all of which are difficult. But what the scientists that didthe background with Q Switch found, is that fungus is more susceptible to a complete kill withcavitation than with using heat, which is what the primary mechanism is with long pulse. It oftenwould take Dr. Nordyke up to 5-6 visits (sometimes more often) with long pulse laser. Not that long pulse does not work, because it does, but just takes much longer as compared toQ Switch.
3. Is there pain with Q Switch Laser?

NO.

4. How many visits are required for Q Switch Laser?

Typically two visits, but Dr. Nordyke will usually want to see patients a third visit afterapproximately six months.5. What is required to keep the fungus away?We ask our patients to start using antiperspirants and powders to prevent excess moisture, which is the primary cause of nail fungus.6. What other factors cause nail fungus, besides moisture?Other factors can include a deficient immune system, chemotherapy, infections from nail salons,to name a few.
